the why

Today marked a special day in my journey towards the Camino Frances. We - my family and I - ventured out for a 5-mile walk in the serene landscapes of Folsom, California. This distance, which would usually take me considerable time to cover, was completed easily. We walked continuously, without stopping, a testament to my growing strength and determination.

Reflecting upon this, I've realized that my pilgrimage truly began on the day I decided to embark on it. Even though I am not in Spain yet, the spirit of the Camino Frances is already weaving its magic around me. I've been listening to stories of why people choose this sacred walk:

  • A woman mourning the loss of her husband, finding solace and healing on the trail.

  • A spirited 70-year-old embracing retirement with an awe-inspiring 500 km journey.

  • A father and daughter, bonding over a shared bucket list adventure.

And as for me? My pilgrimage is a quest for self-discovery. It's an opportunity to listen to my thoughts, see the world from a fresh perspective, and shed some unwanted pounds.

Every step I take, whether in the mountains of Colorado, the hills of California, or on the paths of Spain, brings me closer to understanding myself. It's a journey of the body and the soul, and I am ready to embrace whatever lies ahead with an open heart and a curious mind.

Miles covered since day 1: 29 miles.
